Sensus study association creates and participates in the development of meeting places for education and culture. We do this together with member organizations, partners, and participants. Our focus areas are education, culture, rights-based work, sustainability, life issues, and relationships. Sensus identity is our guiding document. You can find it here.

Sensus is now looking for a creative and committed development manager in music and culture based in Umeå.

What will you do as a development manager with us?

Sensus supports the development of bands, artists, musicians, producers, organizers, leaders, groups, and associations in the music scene. We organize concerts, festivals, courses, lectures, and workshops.

The hub of Umeå's music activities is our music and culture house Labbet. At Labbet, we work with groups and bands in rehearsal rooms, have studio spaces, organize concerts and exhibitions in the house, and support groups and individuals working with music production.

In addition, we run Studios for a better day, which is a collaboration with the Tim Bergling Foundation aimed at promoting mental health among young people. Besides the collaboration with the Tim Bergling Foundation, we also work closely with organizations such as Popkollo, Who Can Become a Producer, STIM, and many local and regional organizations.

Your main tasks will be to:

  • Be a sounding board and support for participants, groups, and associations collaborating with us.
  • Be involved in regional and national working groups and teams in Sensus music activities.
  • Organize and lead workshops, as well as create, plan, and carry out songwriting camps, live performances, studio recordings, and other events.
  • Together with a colleague, be responsible for developing and driving the operations in Umeå forward, both at the culture house Labbet and in activities outside the premises.

What do you need to know?

We believe that you want to enable others to grow through popular education and are passionate about creating good conditions for collaboration. You have a strong commitment to and want to contribute to the development of Sweden's music and cultural life.

It is therefore crucial that you love music and have a good understanding of today's modern music world, both from a cultural and practical perspective with a focus on music creation.

Furthermore, we believe that you:

  • Enjoy having your tasks running in parallel and being varied. You need to thrive in, and be good at, structuring your work and time independently and responsibly.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a good ability to build trust, relationships, and collaborations.
  • Is easy to communicate with in speech and writing, and is pedagogical and can be clear when needed in your role.
  • Has experience in music creation, songwriting, music production, and working in a music studio, and is familiar with software such as LogicPro, Ableton Live, FL Studio.
  • Can prioritize independently and take responsibility for planning and implementing activities.
  • Is comfortable with administrative tasks and wants to work according to the regulations of popular education.
  • Likes to learn new digital tools and is already familiar with AI, Microsoft 365, and social media.
  • Has experience or a good understanding of popular education and the non-profit sector.

It is also meritorious if you:

  • Have good knowledge of, and a personal network within, the music scene in Umeå and surrounding areas.
  • Have experience of professional or voluntary work within the music scene, associations, or freelance creative work.
  • Have experience in outreach work to reach new participants and create contexts, preferably focusing on young people and young adults in Umeå.
  • Have experience in norm-critical work.
  • Have knowledge of sound and lighting technology.

About the position

The position is a full-time temporary position for twelve months, with a chance of extension. Start date is June 1, 2026, or by agreement. The place of employment is Umeå.

Collective agreements exist between Fremia, Unionen, and the Academics' unions. We apply goal-oriented working hours. Travel, including overnight stays, is part of the job. Since many of our events take place outside office hours, regular work in the evenings and weekends occurs.
